Liverpool FC Celebrated for Pioneering Gender Inclusion in Football

Liverpool Football Club and the LFC Foundation are making headlines for their outstanding commitment to gender inclusion and equality in football, having recently received the prestigious Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award at the 2026 Women’s Football Awards. This recognition highlights the significant impact the club and foundation have made in creating a more inclusive and equitable game for all.

Driving Change Through Strategic Initiatives

As part of their sustainability strategy, known as The Red Way, Liverpool FC has prioritized gender inclusion and is dedicated to fostering an environment where women feel safe and welcome. In partnership with Her Game Too, the club launched a pioneering campaign aimed at tackling sexism and misogyny in football. With over 100 staff members undergoing specialized training before a key match, the initiative demonstrates a proactive approach to ensuring a respectful atmosphere at Anfield.

Elevating Female Voices in Football

The club has also made strides in amplifying female voices within the sport. Leveraging their global social media platforms, Liverpool FC has forged collaborations with renowned brands like Google Pixel and AXA to reach millions. Throughout 2025 and 2026, these efforts generated a staggering 14 million reach and over 14,000 hours of watch time, showcasing the talent and stories of women in football.

Creating Opportunities for Women and Girls

Internally, Liverpool FC has shown a commitment to empowering women by participating in the Women in Football membership program. The club has provided workshops, mentoring, and leadership opportunities to develop its female workforce. This effort aims to cultivate a supportive environment for women to thrive in the game.

The LFC Foundation further contributes to this mission by creating accessible pathways for women and girls within local communities. Their targeted programs focus on building confidence and participation, successfully supporting 928 young people last season, with an impressive 86% reporting increased self-assurance in challenging stereotypes.

A Tribute to Lasting Contributions

The Women’s Football Awards also recognized the enduring contributions of Matt Beard, celebrated for his role in player development and enhancing the profile of women’s football in the UK. Niamh Fahey, a prominent figure at LFC Women, received a posthumous award on his behalf, underscoring the club's dedication to honoring those who have made significant strides in the sport.

Rishi Jain, Director of Impact at Liverpool FC, encapsulated the club’s commitment by stating, “This recognition reflects the ongoing work across the club and LFC Foundation to drive meaningful progress on gender inclusion. While we are delighted with the progress being made, we know there is still more to do.”
