Liverpool FC Leads the Way in Gender Inclusion: Celebrating New Milestones

Liverpool Football Club (LFC) and its Foundation have achieved a significant recognition at the 2026 Women’s Football Awards for their steadfast commitment to fostering inclusivity and equity within the sport. The club was awarded the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award, highlighting its impactful initiatives geared towards making women's football more accessible and welcoming.

A Commitment to Gender Inclusion

Under its sustainability strategy, The Red Way, Liverpool FC has prioritized gender inclusion as a strategic goal. Their efforts include a partnership with Her Game Too to combat sexism and misogyny in football, establishing an environment where all women feel safe, supported, and welcomed. Ahead of their recent match against West Ham, LFC staff underwent specialized training to further strengthen their response to harassment, demonstrating a proactive approach to safeguarding female fans.

Elevating Female Voices

The club's global social media platforms have also played a crucial role in amplifying women's voices in football. Collaborating with companies like Google Pixel, Wasabi, and AXA, LFC generated an impressive reach of 14 million, showcasing the importance of female participation both on and off the field.

Empowerment Through Development Programs

Internally, Liverpool FC has dedicated itself to creating pathways for girls and women within the sport. Since joining the Women in Football membership program in November 2025, LFC has focused on providing workshops, mentoring, and leadership development opportunities, thus cultivating a positive and inclusive culture. The LFC Foundation continues to spearhead initiatives aimed at increasing confidence and participation among women and girls, effectively addressing gender disparities at all levels.

One notable initiative, ‘We Empower’, has reportedly assisted 928 young individuals last season, with a striking 86% of participants expressing enhanced confidence in challenging gender stereotypes. Additionally, programs like Premier League Kicks leverage football to foster skill development and create connections among girls in a supportive environment.

Acknowledging Contributions to Women's Football

During the award ceremony, the contributions of Matt Beard were also honored, with a posthumous award received by Niamh Fahey for his lasting impact on women's football. This recognition is a testament to the ongoing efforts and dedication seen within Liverpool FC and reflects the club's broader commitment to breaking down barriers in the sport.

As Rishi Jain, Director of Impact at Liverpool FC, stated, “This recognition reflects the ongoing work across the club and LFC Foundation to drive meaningful progress on gender inclusion.” With a proactive stance and a vision for continued improvement, Liverpool FC is undoubtedly setting a benchmark in promoting equality in sports.
