Liverpool FC Makes Waves in Women's Football with Landmark Recognition
Liverpool Football Club and LFC Foundation have recently been honored at the 2026 Women’s Football Awards, showcasing their unwavering dedication to fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment within the sport. The club received the prestigious Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Award at the ceremony, which celebrates impactful contributions to women's football.
A Pledge to Gender Inclusion
Gender inclusion continues to be a strategic priority for Liverpool FC, emphasized through its sustainability strategy known as The Red Way. This long-term commitment aims to create a better future for all stakeholders—people, the planet, and local communities. As part of their initiatives, the club partnered with Her Game Too to launch an innovative campaign aimed at tackling sexism and misogyny in football.
Empowering Women in Football
In a significant move to enhance safety and support for women at Anfield, over 100 staff members underwent specialized training to improve reporting mechanisms for incidents related to sexism. This initiative ensures that all women can feel secure and welcomed at the stadium.
Elevating Female Voices
Liverpool FC’s commitment to gender inclusion is further evident in their social media efforts, which actively promote female voices within the sport. Collaborations with major brands such as Google Pixel and AXA have achieved remarkable reach, amassing 14 million impressions and over 14,000 hours of watch time across platforms in 2025 and 2026.
Creating Opportunities and Building Confidence
Additionally, the club's internal initiatives aim to cultivate opportunities for girls and women to advance and lead in football. Since joining the Women in Football membership program, Liverpool FC has provided workshops, mentoring, and leadership opportunities to enhance the development of its female workforce.
The LFC Foundation is also making strides in the community by creating accessible pathways for local women and girls. Programs like ‘We Empower’ have supported 928 young people in the past season, with a notable 86% reporting increased confidence in confronting gender stereotypes. Furthermore, initiatives like Premier League Kicks offer young girls a safe space to build skills and connections, fostering an inclusive atmosphere in the sport.
Acknowledging Contributions to Women's Football
At the Women’s Football Awards, Matt Beard was also honored posthumously, recognizing his significant contributions to developing players and enhancing the profile of women’s football in the UK. Niamh Fahey, who formerly captained Liverpool FC Women, accepted the award on his behalf, reinforcing the legacy of commitment to the advancement of women’s football.
Rishi Jain, the Director of Impact at Liverpool FC, noted, “This recognition reflects the ongoing work across the club and LFC Foundation to drive meaningful progress on gender inclusion. At Liverpool FC, we believe football should be a game where women and girls feel safe, valued, and able to thrive.” The club remains resolute in its mission to challenge discrimination and create lasting opportunities for women and girls in the sport.
