Make This Holiday Season Brighter: Join Alexandria's Community Toy Drive!

The spirit of giving is alive and well in Alexandria, Virginia, as Volunteer Alexandria (VolALX) launches its annual Toys4ALX collection drive. Running through December 11, this initiative aims to collect more than 3,500 new, unwrapped toys to support over 700 children in need across the city. With many families facing increased financial difficulties, this year's drive is more vital than ever.

Community Collaboration for a Cause

Executive Director Marion Brunken emphasizes the drive's importance, stating, "More and more parents are struggling to support their families due to higher costs." The collection efforts focus on supporting the 300+ families registered with the Fund for Alexandria’s Child by providing 3-5 toys for each child. However, the success of this initiative hinges on the generosity of the community.

How You Can Contribute

VolALX is calling on residents, businesses, civic groups, social clubs, and faith communities to participate either by donating toys or through financial contributions. The drive not only aims to meet the immediate needs of local families but also to partner with organizations like The Miracle League of Alexandria, ensuring that any excess toys will be distributed to other community programs, including the Domestic Violence Program and the Substance Abuse Center.

Drop-Off Locations and Ideas

Toys can be dropped off at various citywide locations, with the Main Collection Hub situated at 3451 Richmond Highway (the former TJ Maxx) open on December 9 and 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you're unsure about what toys to donate, consider science kits, dolls of all ethnicities, LEGO sets, educational toys, and sports equipment which are all great options for nurturing the joy of giving.

This holiday season, join hands with your neighbors to make a significant impact in the lives of children in Alexandria. Together, we can spread joy and warmth through the gift of toys and the spirit of community.
