Meet the Inspiring DJ Collective Turning the Tables at 90!
In a remarkable showcase of talent and vitality, a group of female DJs aged 60 and above, known as Forever Fresh, has captivated audiences at music festivals in Germany. The initiative emerged from a desire to include older demographics in the vibrant world of DJing, leading to a groundbreaking new trend in the music industry.
Empowering Women Through Music
The journey began at the C/O Festival in Cologne, where festival organizers noted the absence of opportunities for women over 60. "We realized there really wasn’t anything for women over 60," said Pia Leohart, one of the festival's promoters. This realization sparked an innovative idea: to encourage older women to step behind the turntables and embrace the world of DJing.
Senior women were invited to learn the complexities of mixing music, from mastering transitions to understanding audio equipment. What’s astonishing is that many of these women had never even used a computer before embarking on this journey. DJ Sedaction, one of the instructors, highlighted the appeal of the challenge, noting that it had been years since many participants faced something so demanding—making the experience all the more thrilling.
An Unexpected Hit
Among the talented group is 90-year-old DJ Miss Crazy Irma, who defies the limitations of age with her exuberant performances. "Once I get on stage, I’m fully upright, moving and grooving," she stated confidently. The Forever Fresh collective had their first performance in April 2025 and has since graced the stage at multiple events, including the renowned festival in Cologne.
The benefits of dancing are well-documented, promoting weight loss, better mental health, and improved blood pressure. Audiences of all ages are loving the infectious energy brought by the DJs. “We thought only our families and friends would come, but younger people were amazing!” shared Uschi Ophir, the youngest member at 64. The music lineup, featuring hits from artists like David Guetta, Pink, and ABBA, created a lively atmosphere that left partygoers exhilarated.
A Bright Future for Forever Fresh
The success of Forever Fresh is not only a celebration of women breaking barriers but also a testament to the idea that age should not be a limitation to pursuing one’s passions. Edeltraud Stecher-Breckner summarized the sentiment perfectly: “I thought, this is exactly what I want to do now.” As they continue to inspire audiences and redefine what it means to be a DJ, the collective proves that it's never too late to chase one’s dreams.
