Miraculous Comeback: Wibli Wobli Nursery Shines in Latest Inspection
Wibli Wobli, a Welsh-medium nursery in Newport, is basking in the glow of a recent Estyn inspection that has praised its operations as "well-run" and "happy and nurturing." This commendation comes after the nursery faced the adversity of losing its previous premises to a fire earlier this year.
A Bright Future for Young Minds
In its inaugural inspection by Estyn and Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), Wibli Wobli received a “good” rating across all key areas such as well-being, care and development, environment, and leadership and management. The nursery now caters to about 150 children under the age of five, providing them with a nurturing environment that supports both their emotional and educational needs.
Commitment to Welsh Language and Play-Based Learning
The nursery emphasizes the importance of Welsh language development among young children, incorporating it as the primary medium of learning. During play, many children were observed using Welsh naturally, enhancing their language skills in a fun and engaging manner. The curriculum includes imaginative role play, science experiments, and other activities designed to foster creativity and critical thinking.
Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Owner Natasha Baker has led Wibli Wobli through this transformative phase since the fire incident that affected around 60 children and disrupted families' childcare arrangements. With robust support from Business Wales and £25,000 from the UK Steel Enterprise Support Programme, Baker successfully reopened the nursery in a new location. Furthermore, the nursery has expanded to include a second site in Roath, Cardiff, addressing the growing community demand for Welsh-medium childcare services.
