In a significant recognition of workplace culture and employee satisfaction, 10 North East companies have made it to the prestigious list of the UK’s Best Workplaces for 2026. This accolade is awarded by Great Place To Work, a globally recognized authority that evaluates businesses based on employee survey responses and organizational culture audits.

The North East region has much to celebrate, with firms such as Home Group, Northumbrian Water, and Gentoo receiving acclaim for their positive workplace environments. Home Group stands out at number 17 in the ‘super large’ category, with 80% of its employees affirming that it is a great place to work. Vicki Carruthers, the director of people at Home Group, emphasized the importance of engaging with colleagues and valuing their insights and feedback, marking the tenth consecutive year the organization has ranked highly in this survey.

Northumbrian Water also made the super large list, ranking at number 28. Elouise Leonard-Cross, the group people director, remarked on their commitment to inclusivity and the impact it has on employee experiences, noting that 90% of employees chose to share their views, contributing to their culture of equity and support. Meanwhile, Gentoo’s recognition at number 32 highlights its dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive culture where employees feel supported and valued.

In the large workplace category, Atom, the UK’s first digital-only bank, celebrated its first-time entry at number 31. Chief operations officer Helen Wilson expressed pride in their accomplishment, noting the significance of creating a workplace where everyone can thrive.
