Renfrewshire Shines Bright: Major Success for School Leavers
Renfrewshire has made remarkable strides in ensuring that its young people are entering positive career pathways, with nearly 98% of school leavers transitioning into apprenticeships, further training, university, college, or employment. This achievement has earned the area a joint second place ranking in Scotland, marking a significant advancement from last year's fifth position.
Pathways to Success
The commendable success of Renfrewshire's school leavers is largely attributed to the dedicated efforts of the Renfrewshire Council’s Children’s Services. By fostering partnerships between schools and local organizations, the council has created a robust framework that provides young individuals with the career guidance and vocational opportunities they need to thrive.
A Collaborative Approach
The council collaborates with entities such as Skills Development Scotland and the local employability partnership to streamline support for school leavers. Additionally, the well-established Career Ready programme offers mentoring, while new initiatives like the Renfrewshire Pathfinders programme launched in September 2024, aim to integrate work placements with qualifications to ease the transition from school to further education or the workforce.
A Bright Future Ahead
Councillor Emma Rodden, education convener, expressed pride in the achievements of the community: "Renfrewshire being ranked joint second for positive destinations of school leavers is a testament to the hard work and ambition we have for our young people. Our schools and education teams have built strong partnerships with employers and colleges, opening meaningful pathways that give every young person a chance to succeed."
This success story illustrates how a focused, community-driven approach can significantly impact the future of youth. As Renfrewshire continues to elevate its efforts, the prospects for local school leavers remain promising, making it a model for other regions striving to enhance educational outcomes.
