Reviving Classics: The Hempolics Release a Vibrant New EP

London-based reggae group The Hempolics are back on the music scene with their latest EP, "A Fistful of Covers," released on ZeeZee Records. Available now on Bandcamp and arriving on major streaming services on May 29, 2026, this collection presents the band's unique interpretations of beloved tracks, infused with their signature dub style.

A Fresh Twist on Familiar Favorites

"A Fistful of Covers" stands out as the Hempolics' first release since their 2024 album "KCT3." The lead single features a reggae-infused rendition of Sade's "No Ordinary Love," transformed into a rhythmically rich experience that combines deep bass grooves with lively melodies and a feel-good reggae flow. This summery interpretation is bound to evoke a sense of joy and nostalgia for listeners.

Paying Homage to Musical Influences

The EP also pays tribute to influential artists such as Shuggie Otis and one of New York's favorite bands, The Frightners. In their version of "Aht Uh Mi Hed," The Hempolics breathe new life into the classic with soulful, jazz-inflected reggae tones and an infectious rhythm. Additionally, "Nothing More To Say" offers an upbeat twist, complete with vibrant horns that amplify its feel-good energy.

Producer's Vision and Band's Journey

Producer Grippa Laybourne expressed the essence of the project, stating, “These are tunes that meant something to us, so we’ve taken them and run them through The Hempolics sound, produced with love and respect to the originals, whilst also putting our own stamp on them.” The band's journey began with their debut release "Warrior Sound" in 2015, garnering support from BBC's notable DJs and engaging audiences worldwide through extensive touring and major festival performances.

Upcoming Tour and Festival Appearances

Fans of The Hempolics can catch them live during their upcoming tour in May 2026, with performances scheduled in cities such as Chelmsford, Ipswich, and Bristol. The band will also be gracing several festivals including Cursus Festival and Shindig Festival, promising an energizing experience filled with their unique sound.
