Revolutionary Progress in Charitable Foundations: A Beacon of Hope!

The latest Foundation Practice Rating (FPR) report has unveiled a wave of positive change within UK charitable foundations, highlighting outstanding advancements in diversity, accountability, and transparency. This year's assessment signifies the best results recorded in the initiative's five-year history, showcasing a collective stride towards excellence in grant-making practices.

Historic Achievements in Foundation Ratings

In a record-setting evaluation, 12 foundations soared to achieve an overall A grade—the highest rating ever earned in a single year. Impressively, three of these foundations secured an A in each domain, a feat only accomplished once in the prior four years. The report also notes a decrease in foundations receiving the lowest grade, with only seven foundations rated D across all three domains this year, marking a significant improvement from previous assessments.

Voices of Change: Leaders Committed to Inclusivity

Danielle Walker Palmour, Director of Friends Provident Foundation, expressed optimism regarding these findings: “These results show that as a sector, we're making headway. There's still work to do, but improvements have been made. That's good news for the charities who come to us for funding.” This sentiment is echoed by mission-driven foundations like Mission 44, founded by Sir Lewis Hamilton, which is dedicated to promoting equity and inclusion for young people worldwide.

Community Foundations Leading the Way

The report reveals that community foundations continue to excel, with all seven assessed achieving A or B ratings. Emma de Closset, Chief Executive of UK Community Foundations, attributed this success to their deep-rooted connection to local communities, emphasizing the importance of listening, transparency, and accountability. "It is fantastic to see that community foundations are consistently performing strongly in the Foundation Practice Rating,” she noted.

A Commitment to Positive Change

As the landscape of philanthropy evolves, the commitment to enhancing funding practices remains steadfast. Danielle reiterated the importance of not only what is funded but how it is executed. The Foundation Practice Rating serves as a vital tool to foster positive transformations across the sector—ultimately benefiting the charities and communities they serve.
