Over the past seven years, manufacturers in the Liverpool City Region have gained access to £1.4 million in matched funding from Made Smarter. This funding has not only unlocked an impressive £4.5 million in investment across 68 diverse technology projects but is also expected to create over 410 new jobs and enhance the skills of nearly 425 existing roles. The anticipated impact on the regional economy is a remarkable £54.7 million over the coming three years.

Donna Edwards, Programme Director of Made Smarter, expressed pride in reaching this milestone, stating that it demonstrates the potential of North West manufacturers when provided with adequate support. She emphasized the transformative effects that digitalization can have on productivity and job creation, laying the groundwork for long-term growth.
Success Stories from the Initiative
The success of the Made Smarter initiative is exemplified by manufacturers such as D Squared Product Development, which secured funding for a state-of-the-art 3D printer and laser cutter. Technical Director Daniel Isler noted that the collaboration with Made Smarter enabled the rapid deployment of new technologies, bolstering their competitiveness while safeguarding skilled jobs in the region.
A Vision for the Future
Since its inception in 2018, the Made Smarter program has fostered innovation by providing £7.4 million in matched funding to North West manufacturers, catalyzing a total investment of £26 million in advanced technologies. Predictions suggest that this will create over 1,850 new jobs while upskilling 3,300 existing roles, potentially delivering a substantial £276 million boost to the regional economy within the next three years.
Beyond financial assistance, Made Smarter offers a comprehensive suite of support for SME manufacturers, including digital transformation workshops and leadership training. This investment in the manufacturing sector represents a promising future, enhancing capabilities and preparing the industry for the challenges ahead.
