Rugby Veterans Unite for Charity in Epic 45-Mile Journey

This month, the Rochdale Rugby League Masters—a group composed of over-35s men’s and women’s teams—will embark on a formidable 45-mile trek known as the All Together Walk 2026, aimed at raising funds for several poignant charities including the MND Association and Springhill Hospice. Following last year’s successful endeavor, which garnered over £9,000, the team has set an ambitious goal of surpassing £10,000 this year.

A Walk to Remember

The journey will commence from the Ince Rosebridge Rugby League Club in Wigan, traversing through various masters clubs and concluding at the Rochdale Masters Club located at Mayfield Sports Centre in Keswick Street. With expectations of more than 25 participants, the walk promotes both physical fitness and community spirit, inviting not just players but supporters and friends to join in on various stages of the trek.

Community and Inclusion

Organiser Carl Abraham emphasized the event's inclusivity: “Everyone is invited to join us. Whether you can walk the full 45 miles or just a section, every contribution is valued.” This ethos of togetherness highlights the profound commitment of the rugby community to come together for a common cause, showcasing the impact individuals and organizations can achieve when they unite.

Further Engagement and Support

The event, set for Saturday, October 31, will be complemented by a Halloween party at the finish line, promising a spirited celebration after the physical challenge. Local businesses are also encouraged to support this admirable effort through sponsorship, fostering a sense of collaboration among community members.

As the Rochdale Rugby League Masters rally for a noble cause, they embody the notion that age should not deter one from participating in sports or community service. Their philosophy, “We don’t stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing,” serves as a powerful reminder of the vitality found in engagement and camaraderie.

For those interested in supporting this initiative, donations can be made via their GoFundMe page, ensuring your contributions help drive significant change within the community.
