St. Charles Health System Boosts Community with Over $240,000 in Grants!
In a commendable effort to uplift the community, St. Charles Health System has awarded more than $240,000 in Community Benefit grants to 45 local organizations in Central Oregon. This funding is part of a dedicated initiative aimed at addressing critical community needs, including access to healthy food and fostering a sense of belonging among residents.
A Growing Need for Community Support
The demand for these grants has been overwhelming, with over 90 organizations applying this year, reflecting a significant rise in community need. Carlos Salcedo, the manager of Community Partnerships at St. Charles, expressed pride in supporting numerous noble endeavors throughout Central Oregon, highlighting the growing challenges faced by many.
Impactful Projects and Initiatives
Among the grant recipients, Open Door Ministries stands out, receiving a $5,000 grant dedicated to basic needs. This organization, linked to the Bend Methodist Church, plays a vital role in supporting individuals facing poverty or homelessness by offering essential services such as clothing, hygiene supplies, food, and financial assistance for utilities. The ministry also runs a mailroom for those without permanent addresses, assisting over 200 Central Oregonians in accessing crucial resources.
Volunteers Making a Difference
Charlotte Hartman, a devoted volunteer in the Open Door Ministries mailroom for nearly 40 years, underscores the importance of this work. Hartman's long-standing commitment is rooted in her desire to address the extensive needs of the community. She remarked, “You just look around and see the need. It's huge. It makes me feel good and hopefully it touches someone's life in a positive way.”
St. Charles Health System, the largest employer in Central Oregon with over 5,600 caregivers, continues to affirm its commitment to improving community health and well-being through these grants, striving to create a brighter future for all residents.
