Transforming Bridlington: A Community's Journey to Revitalization
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council, together with community groups such as the Bridlington Ambassadors and Brightening Up Bridlington (BUB), is spearheading a remarkable initiative aimed at rejuvenating the local environment and reinforcing civic pride in Bridlington. This collaborative effort has led to noticeable improvements in the town's properties and public spaces.
Property Pride Campaign: Revitalizing the Town
At the heart of this initiative is the Property Pride campaign, which identifies and addresses homes and buildings in disrepair. So far, 39 properties have been pinpointed for necessary remedial work, and encouragingly, two-thirds of the owners have responded positively to outreach efforts. The results are already becoming evident, with many properties seeing restoration, planned renovations, or upgrades to their frontages, contributing to a more appealing streetscape.
Combating Anti-Social Behaviour
This campaign is part of the broader Clear Hold Build scheme, aimed at combating serious organized crime and anti-social behaviour in the region. The involvement of planning enforcement and anti-social behaviour teams from the East Riding Council, along with support from Humberside Police, highlights a committed, multi-agency approach to creating a safer and more welcoming environment for both residents and visitors.
Community Engagement and Volunteer Efforts
The transformation is not solely due to institutional efforts; the community has been actively engaged in the process. BUB has been organizing monthly volunteer litter picks since 2014 to keep the town clean, and they have recently launched an eyesore audit to address long-standing issues with neglected commercial properties. Such proactive community involvement underscores the dedication of local residents to improving their own living environment.
A Vision for a Bright Future
Councillor Lyn Healing praised these initiatives, expressing pride in supporting the communities across the East Riding. She noted, “It’s great to see the improvement works reap real results in Bridlington, and we send our thanks to the volunteers playing a key role in supporting their town.”
As Bridlington continues to undergo this positive transformation, the commitment of local figures like Martyn Coltman of the Bridlington Ambassadors reinforces the notion that tackling disrepair is crucial for fostering a vibrant community atmosphere. The journey towards a better Bridlington showcases the power of collaboration and community spirit in overcoming challenges and enhancing the quality of life for all.
