Transforming Children's Healthcare: Starlight Foundation Receives Prestigious Award
In a heartening moment for children's healthcare, the Starlight Children’s Foundation has been awarded the F1® Allwyn Global Community Award at the FORMULA 1® PIRELLI BRITISH GRAND PRIX 2026. This distinguished award comes with a grant of €100,000, aimed at enhancing the charity's innovative approach to caring for critically ill children during their hospital stays.
Championing Play in Healthcare
Starlight Children's Foundation has dedicated itself to ensuring that hospitalized children can engage in play and find joy, even in challenging circumstances. The foundation addresses the emotional toll that medical treatment can impose on young patients, particularly in the UK where 1.4 million children are at risk of healthcare-related trauma. By creating moments of joy amidst the fear, Starlight is redefining the experience of healthcare for these children.
A Bold New Initiative
The prize will help Starlight implement a groundbreaking pilot project by introducing the 'Health Play Practice Educator' role. This initiative aims to integrate consistent play-informed care across the National Health Service (NHS). It will provide the necessary training for up to 1,000 healthcare professionals, equipping them with the tools to support children's emotional well-being effectively.
A Shared Vision for Change
Alastair Ruxton, Chief Impact Officer at Allwyn UK, emphasized the innovative spirit of Starlight in his remarks about the award. He expressed pride in supporting a project that promises to transform healthcare experiences for children. Cathy Gilman, CEO of Starlight, echoed this sentiment, revealing that the funding will directly enhance the comfort and kindness of treatments for seriously ill children, enabling them to understand and cope with their situations more effectively.
Looking Ahead
As part of a series of recognitions, Starlight Children’s Foundation is the third non-profit to receive acclaim through the F1® Allwyn Global Community Award. With an exciting future ahead, more organizations will have the opportunity to showcase their positive community impacts as the F1 season progresses. These initiatives not only seek to alleviate immediate challenges but also aim to inspire systemic changes for the betterment of health services worldwide.
