Transforming Summers: How Telford's Holiday Program is Changing Lives
This summer, children and young people across Telford and Wrekin experienced a season of joy, learning, and healthy living through the Happy Healthy Active Holidays (HHAH) initiative. Coordinated by Telford & Wrekin Council, the program served as a lifeline during the school holidays, providing enriching activities that kept the spirit of community and wellness alive.
A Record of Participation
With 10,000 places booked across 37 providers and 67 sites, the program witnessed overwhelming participation through a total of 558 events. Children engaged in a wide variety of activities, ranging from sports and baking to arts and crafts, and even forest school adventures. Such diverse offerings not only kept children entertained but also promoted skill development and physical health during the holiday break.
Inclusivity at Its Core
A standout feature of the HHAH program is its commitment to inclusivity. Many planned activities were tailored to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This initiative ensured that families from all walks of life could benefit from the experiences provided, fostering a sense of belonging and community among participants.
Community Voices
Councillor Shirley Reynolds expressed her pride in the program, highlighting the positive impact it has had on local children. "It was wonderful to visit some of this year's Happy Healthy Active Holidays sessions and see so many children and young people having fun, learning new skills and making new friends," she noted. The program not only facilitated healthy activities but also provided parents and carers with much-needed support during the busy summer months.
Looking Ahead
The HHAH program stands as a testament to Telford & Wrekin Council's vision of ensuring every child has the best start in life. By promoting health, safety, and happiness, the initiative paves the way for a brighter future.
