Transforming Well-Being: SERC's Mind Yourself Initiative Shines
As part of Stress Awareness Day in November, South Eastern Regional College’s (SERC) Mind Yourself team has launched an uplifting initiative aimed at promoting mental well-being. Collaborating with the College’s Hair and Beauty teams across Bangor, Downpatrick, and Lisburn Campuses, they have introduced "Feel Good, Look Good" sessions.
Empowering the Community
These sessions were designed for not just staff but also for family and friends, fostering a sense of community and support. Participants experienced firsthand the benefits of self-care through various beauty treatments, which aim to enhance both physical appearance and mental health. This initiative exemplifies how educational institutions can play a pivotal role in community health and well-being.
Skill Development for Students
In addition to the benefits for participants, the sessions also prove invaluable for the students involved. They were afforded the opportunity to practice their skills and knowledge in a real-world setting, enhancing their learning experience. Engaging with clients not only boosts their confidence but also prepares them for future careers in the beauty industry.
This initiative serves as a reminder that education goes beyond academics; it extends into the well-being of the community. By combining learning with community service, SERC is setting a commendable example for other institutions to follow.
