Unforgettable Celebration of Women's Strength at HASWA Event
The International Women’s Day Celebration at the Havering Asian and Social Welfare Association (HASWA) on March 4th was a remarkable event that left a lasting impression on all attendees. This year's celebration stood out as the best one yet, thanks to the tireless efforts of the extraordinary ladies at HASWA, led by Manjit.
Inspiration and Camaraderie
The afternoon kicked off with inspiring speeches from Neighbourhoods Supt Sharon Brind and Dr. Maheen Shahid. Supt Brind shared valuable insights from her early career, while Dr. Shahid passionately discussed health initiatives in the local community. Their empowering messages set a positive and uplifting atmosphere for the day.
A Day Filled with Joy and Laughter
The event, hosted by Councillor Stephanie Nunn, was not only informative but also highly engaging. Guests participated in a fun quiz about the significance of International Women's Day and the gender representation in Havering council, fostering a spirit of lively competition and laughter.
After a delicious lunch, attendees were treated to a vibrant dance performance led by Sonia, which transformed into an animated dance workshop. The Mayor, Cllr Sue Ospreay, encouraged participation from all, contributing to a fun and inclusive environment that was appreciated by everyone, including Councillors Philippa Crowder and Christine Smith.
Heartfelt Performances and Community Spirit
Members of HASWA then delighted the audience with heartfelt songs and poetry, adding a personal touch to the celebration and deepening the sense of community. The excitement peaked with the raffle draw, which was met with smiles and joy from all participants.
As the event drew to a close, the Mayor thanked everyone for their participation and recited a humorous poem she had written, leaving attendees in laughter. The event saw a wonderful turnout of seventy guests, including several brave men, all united to celebrate women's contributions and achievements.
A Celebration to Remember
This joyous gathering was a beautiful reminder of the power of community and shared celebration. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all those who contributed to making the International Women’s Day celebration at HASWA such a memorable occasion, highlighting the strength and resilience of women in the community.
