Unlocking Opportunities: £334,000 in Grants for UK Horticulture

In a promising development for the UK horticulture industry, a partnership between the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) and the British Ornamentals Association (BOA) is set to benefit growers with the release of over £334,000 in grants over the next three years. This initiative is aimed at supporting the environmental horticulture sector during challenging times.

A Collaborative Effort

Following nearly 18 months of negotiation, this significant funding has been made possible by the collaboration among the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), the British Growers Association, and various sectoral trade associations. The AHDB Funds Scheme, intended for ornamentals, will enable growers to bid for grants that will collectively benefit the UK horticulture community.

Broad Range of Support

The grants available cover a wide spectrum of purposes, from research and development to grower events and market development initiatives. This approach ensures that the funds are distributed in a manner that promotes collective growth in the industry rather than merely aiding individual entities. According to David Denny, Director of Research & Knowledge Transfer at the HTA, this scheme represents a crucial opportunity for UK growers to enhance production capabilities amid difficult market conditions.

A Call to Action

Robin Squance, Chair of the BOA Technical Committee, expressed optimism about the newly introduced funding model that allows nurseries to access these previously stagnant funds. Growers are encouraged to submit their proposals to access financial support for projects that will enhance the environmental horticulture production in the UK.

This initiative not only signifies a substantial financial boost for the horticulture sector but also reflects a unified response from the industry to leverage existing resources for collective benefit. As the application process begins, the HTA and BOA are looking forward to innovative projects that will drive growth and sustainability in the ornamental horticulture market.
