Welsh Nursery Triumphs with Impressive First Inspection Results
In a remarkable turnaround, Wibli Wobli, a Welsh-medium nursery located in Newport, has received high praise during its first inspection by Estyn and Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). The nursery, celebrated for its “happy and nurturing” care environment, has achieved a “good” rating across all key areas, signaling a successful start in its operations.
Outstanding Ratings and Happy Children
Wibli Wobli received commendations for its well-being, care, development, environment, and leadership and management. Inspectors highlighted the nursery’s strengths, noting that most children were observed to be happy and quickly settled into their routines. This positive atmosphere is supported by a focus on play-based learning, where children engage in imaginative role play, experiential activities, and the use of the Welsh language.
Commitment to Welsh Language and Cultural Heritage
As the only Welsh language nursery for babies under two, Wibli Wobli is playing a crucial role in promoting language development among young children. Activities designed to encourage creative, mathematical, and scientific thinking allow children to naturally incorporate Welsh vocabulary in a fun and engaging environment. The nursery’s commitment to nurturing through language and play serves not only the children but also contributes to the preservation of Welsh culture.
Resilience and Growth After Adversity
The nursery's successful inspection comes after it faced significant challenges, including a fire that destroyed its previous premises in early 2024. With the support of Business Wales and financial backing from the UK Steel Enterprise Support Programme, Wibli Wobli was able to secure new facilities and reopen its doors, even expanding to a second site in Cardiff. This illustrates the resilience and determination of its owner, Natasha Baker, and her team to provide quality childcare amidst adversity.
Wibli Wobli’s journey reflects a strong community commitment to early education and highlights the growing demand for Welsh-medium childcare in the region. As the nursery continues to thrive, it sets a positive example for other educational establishments, proving that with dedication, it is possible to overcome hardships and achieve excellence.
