Wembley Stadium Honors Everyday Heroes in Heart-Saving Campaign

In an inspiring tribute, Wembley Stadium is set to temporarily rename its stands to celebrate four exceptional football fans who have demonstrated remarkable survival stories and courage. This initiative coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Sky Bet EFL Play-Offs, aiming to instill the lifesaving skill of CPR among football enthusiasts.

Spotlighting Courage and Survival

Between May 23 and 25, approximately 200,000 fans attending the Sky Bet EFL Play-Offs will witness the dedication of stands to individuals who have battled against the odds. The new names will honor:

  • The Callum Lawson Stand, named after a Sunderland supporter who survived a cardiac incident during last year’s Championship Play-Off Final.
  • The Pippa Sharman Stand, recognizing a Reading fan who heroically saved the life of a fellow supporter who suffered a medical emergency.
  • The Andy Wall Stand, in memory of a Norwich City fan who overcame a cardiac arrest while watching a match.
  • The Ed McCann Stand, named after a Bradford City fan who was saved by a fellow supporter through the timely administration of CPR.

Every Minute Matters Initiative

This dedication is part of the "Every Minute Matters" campaign, a collaboration between Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation (BHF) aimed at raising awareness about the importance of CPR. The initiative has already seen resounding success, motivating over half a million fans to learn CPR basics through the BHF’s free RevivR tool. The power of community and the potential for saving lives are at the heart of this endeavor.

A Personal Message from a Survivor

Tom Lockyer, Every Minute Matters ambassador and cardiac arrest survivor, highlights the emotional weight of this tribute. Having experienced the urgency of a cardiac episode firsthand, Lockyer passionately supports the campaign's mission, emphasizing that each second is vital in saving a life. He states, "These stories are proof that ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference when every minute matters."

In essence, this initiative not only honors those who have faced medical emergencies but also galvanizes football fans and communities to take proactive steps towards learning CPR, nurturing a culture of readiness and resilience. The message is clear: together, we can save lives, turning emergencies into stories of survival.

Fans eager to participate in this life-saving movement can learn CPR in just 15 minutes by visiting the BHF RevivR website.
