Worcestershire Inclusive Choir Celebrates Music and Togetherness at Creative Arts Festival

Today marks a significant event as the Worcestershire Inclusive Choir takes the stage at the Worcestershire Creative Arts Festival (WCAF). This inspiring group is dedicated to highlighting the transformative power of music, particularly in fostering an inclusive environment.

A Platform for Inclusion

The choir, operated by Severn Arts in partnership with Soundabout, serves as a welcoming space for young people with disabilities, aged 25 and under, across the county. The initiative not only allows these young individuals to explore their musical talents but also facilitates a supportive community where they can express themselves freely alongside their families.

Empowering through Music

Co-leader Gareth Hughes emphasizes the profound impact of such a platform, stating, "I think it's the most beautiful thing that we can do is to give people the chance to either sing or use a sound that they feel comfortable with, whatever the instrument." This sentiment showcases the essence of the choir’s mission: to enhance interpersonal connections and promote well-being through collaborative musical expression.

Visual and Sensory Experience

During the festival, the choir is set to perform "Glow," a piece creatively developed by emerging leaders at Soundabout. This performance aims to engage the audience not only through audio but also via a visual spectacle, with lights and props such as torches and glow sticks. Hughes highlights the choir's desire to create an experience that stimulates all senses, reinforcing the belief that music transcends mere sound.

A Milestone Celebration

The Worcestershire Creative Arts Festival is commemorating its 75th anniversary this year, a testament to its enduring role in fostering creativity within the community since its inception in 1951. The festival spans numerous weekends filled with classes and performances that celebrate artistic expression in various forms.

As the Worcestershire Inclusive Choir takes the spotlight today, it not only showcases the talents of its members but also sends a powerful message about the importance of inclusivity and the joy of making music together.
